OTTAWA, June 10, 2013 — A memorial service celebrating the lives of 24 former parliamentarians took place today in the Senate Chamber. Six former senators and 18 former members of the House of Commons, all of whom passed away since May 2012, were remembered by family, friends and former colleagues during a service organized by the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians.

According to the Association’s By-laws, Article XVI, (B) Nominations Committee, all members in good standing are entitled to submit nominations for the Boards of Directors of the Association and the Educational Foundation.  The full text of the CAFP By-laws is available here.  The By-laws of the Educational Foundation are available here.

2012 Distinguished Service Award Call for Nominations

The 2012 Distinguished Service Award will be presented during a ceremony on Parliament Hill on Monday, June 4, 2012.  The award honours members of the Senate and of the House of Commons who may not have been household names but who were respected by colleagues in all parties for their exemplary service and contributions. 

Former parliamentarians are now invited to nominate candidates for the award.  Additional details are available to members in the Member News.  (Please note that members must be logged in to view this section.)
