Dennis Dawson was a member of the Senate of Canada from 2005 to 2023.
Mr. Dawson was the Member of Parliament for the riding of Louis-Hébert under the banner of the Liberal Party of Canada from 1977 to 1984.
He started his career in public service as a trustee and then chair of Quebec City’s Catholic school board in the 1970s. Alongside his career as a parliamentarian and elected official, he worked for companies specializing in public affairs and for a number of charities and community organizations in and around Quebec City, his hometown.
Mr. Dawson was active as a senator, notably as rapporteur for the Political Committee of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie, and he sponsored Bill C-11 to expand Canada’s Broadcasting Act to include online broadcasting platforms.
In 2022, Mr. Dawson received the Medal of the National Assembly of Quebec, and in 2023 he was awarded the rank of Commandeur of the Ordre de la Pléiade.
