Only Good News Newsletter

Dear colleagues,

I was so pleased to receive your feedback to our first “Good News Newsletter”!  From your comments, I gather that I wasn’t the only one who needed some good news these days.

I am happy to report that the
Hon. Janice Johnson is going ahead with a hybrid Gimli Film Festival.  The 21st annual Festival will offer much of the same virtual programming as in 2020, with some new socially-distanced events!

Below are four new stories we received from your fellow colleagues.  In the future, if you wish to congratulate them or simply send a good wish message, please let us know and we will relay those messages for you.

And please make sure to keep sending your stories and/or photos and we will share them with your colleagues, in our next “Only Good News Newsletter”.

Hon. Roy Cullen

“During the pandemic I completed a novel, A cursed English; (Book Info); a project that I had started a few years ago. In March 2020, I thought to myself, if I can’t complete the book now, I never will!

In October 2020, I was thrilled and honoured to have been a prize winner in the seventh annual Amartya Sen Essay Contest – Press Release Amartya Sen Essay Contest.”

Congratulations Roy on your novel and for your prize!

“What a nice idea, this newsletter! Too bad we do not have media outlets with that objective.

Heather and I have been isolated at our home in Glen Sutton, Quebec. I have been working on some foreign files (not law, but on sustainable development), where I gave a course at Yonsei University in Seoul (1996- 1999).

Now life is too quiet but I have done a bit of music. The McGill Symphony played my composition Montreal/Montréal, (see YouTube link on the right), which has now been several times on CBC). The arrangement by Marc Beaulieu on short notice far exceeded my expectations. ”

Congratulations Don on your good work and beautiful music!

Here is the Youtube link  to listen

Hon. Nancy Ruth

We were delighted to hear of the recently published book:

The Unconventional Nancy Ruth, profiling the former Senator; a central figure in Canadian politics, feminism, and social justice activism.

Born into privilege but expected to use her advantages for the good of others, Nancy Ruth has led an uncommon, unconventional life.  From her religious ministry to rewriting Canada’s national anthem to make it gender-neutral, this outspoken, complicated woman has put her stamp on Canada’s public life.

Well done Nancy Ruth!

“I have recently been appointed Executive Director of InnovÉÉ .

This is a great opportunity for me to develop our economy, while reducing our carbon footprint through innovation in electric power and transportation electrification.”

Congratulations and best of luck, Thierry, on your new appointment!
