CAFP is pleased to announce that we have received an invitation from the US Former Members of Congress (FMC) to join them at their annual meeting in Austin, Texas, June 14-17, 2024.
This will be a unique opportunity to build bridges with, and hear first-hand from Republican and Democrat Former Members of Congress and gain their insights into the ongoing 2024 Presidential contest. Additionally, participants will experience the history, culture, and vibrant atmosphere of Austin, and participate in an optional visit to San Antonio, Texas.
Although the program is still being finalized, a few highlights include:
- Opening Reception with US colleagues
- Visit to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library: Immerse yourself in the legacy of one of America’s iconic leaders. The Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library offers a captivating glimpse into the political history of the 36th President of the United States. Explore exhibits, artifacts, and multimedia presentations that chronicle this pivotal era.
- Visit to the State Capitol: Discover the heart of Texas governance with a visit to the State Capitol. A true architectural gem, the State Capitol building is an embodiment of Texas history. Marvel at the stunning architecture, stroll through the grounds, and gain insights into the state’s legislative process.
- Other joint activities to be confirmed.
Optional Tour to San Antonio (at an additional cost):
The CAFP will also offer an optional 1-3 day visit to San Antonio, conveniently located just one hour from Austin. Participants will delve into the picturesque River Walk, explore the historic Alamo, and appreciate the charm of Fredericksburg – an enriching extension to complement the Austin experience. More details on the tour and fees will follow.
Spaces will be limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The cost per person will be $2,300 CAD for CAFP members and $1,400 CAD for accompanying spouses or guests sharing the same room. The package will include:
- Three nights’ accommodations at the Otis Hotel from June 14-17, 2024 (you may book more days at an additional cost to you)
- Dinner on June 14th & 15th
- Breakfast on June 15th & 16th
- Lunch on June 15th
- Registration to FMC Annual Meeting
- Guided tour of the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library
- Guided tour of Texas State Capitol
- Ground transportation to and from the meetings and visits
Exclusions:
- Flights and ground transportation not included in the package
- Alcoholic beverages
- Any meals not included in the package
