CAFP seeks to foster a spirit of community among former parliamentarians, and to protect and promote their interests, as set out in the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians Act.

What we do

The CAFP showcases the capabilities and achievements of former parliamentarians, organizes activities that brings members together, and creates opportunities for them to contribute to parliamentary democracy in Canada and abroad.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians (CAFP) is to promote and advance the values of democracy, leadership, and public service by supporting and engaging former Senators and MP’s in their post-parliamentary lives.

What We Do

We strive to foster a community of mutual respect, collegiality, and lifelong learning amongst former parliamentarians, while advocating for the importance of democratic institutions and the role of parliamentarians in promoting the democratic values of Canada and the well-being of its citizens. Our aim is to provide opportunities for our members to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise, and to promote public understanding of the parliamentary process and the importance of democratic governance in Canada.

Events and Study Tours

Members network and engage through events, including the CAFP Annual General Meeting, receptions, and regional meetings held across Canada. Members have the opportunity to participate in international study tours to gain and share knowledge about democracy, government, and public affairs. Speakers’ Bureau

Our members understand the political process and the institutions of democracy in Canada. And, by virtue of their experience in parliament, possess substantive knowledge in a wide range of public policy issues. Many are accomplished authors and public speakers.

Publications

The Association produces a magazine, called Beyond the Hill, and publishes a regular blog by the Executive Director with news and information on the Association and our members.
